    Kroepeliner Gate

Rostocks town wall and bastions were built around 1300. Some parts are still preserved today such as the mighty gothic Kroepeliner Gate. From there a walkway leads along the historic wall and through the ramparts to Stone Gate and into the eastern old town. Time to relax and get a feeling for this ancient construction.

    Old Stream

The famous boulevard of Warnemuende is the Old Stream. The former passageway into the port of Rostock is today a quiet canal with fisherman's boats, harbour cruises, private yachts and a lot of shopping and dining options alongside. A pleasure to stroll along and smell (or taste) the smoked fish and fresh sea breeze.

    University of Rostock

Founded in 1419 the university is considered the oldest in the Baltic region. The departments are located in all quarters of town but the historic main building remains in the center. With its Neorenaissance style it is an eye-catcher and can now be visited inside also. The square in front is a popular meeting point in Rostock

    Rostock Boulevard

The pedestrian zone between Kroepeliner Gate and the town hall is Rostocks main boulevard. Shops and cafés are plentiful and in summer street musicians and artists make it an open air stage. The gabled houses alongside show a display of all the past styles and are neatly renovated.

    New Market

The central square of the city is an architectural highlight as well. The town hall with its splendid facade and the monumental church of St. Marien are the two landmarks here. Damaged by the war the market is a mix of old and new today. A daily fresh market calls for a refreshment stop and a taste of regional delicacies.

    Around University Square

The most popular meeting point for the locals is the fountain on the square by the university. Round the square are main sights such as the ducal palace, the monument of field marshall Bluecher, the baroque ball room and the so called five gable house (see photo), designed in the 1980s taking up historic elements.
